Rossö in Winter
![]() |
A cropped photo, taken by Sam Andersson in March, 1941, shows two of Rossö's shrimp trawlers left in the ice, waiting for spring and thaw. Notice the Swedish flag, painted on the stern. These years were indeed dangerous, because of the war. So to keep German or allied ships from attacking the fishing vessels it was necessary to carry these signs. Mines adrift in the coastal waters were still a threat and quite a few ships were lost along the Bohuslän coast.

A blurred photo shows German ships forcing the ice in the Kosterfjord, the extremely deep waters between Rossö and Koster. These waters hardly ever freeze, another sign of the unusually cold winters in the ninteenforties.
My uncle, Stig, peacefully and patiently waiting for the first fish to get hooked. Probably around 1950.
