The big crates along the waterfront on the far side of the strait were used to store lobster during the lobster season, every fall and winter.

Family members wave the crew of Lord Nelson good bye, on its way to Iceland for the yearly fishing trip. They would catch the fat and delicious Iceland Herring
and come home with their catch some two months later in the fall.

In addition to my mother's sister, this photo shows the inlet to the harbor at Långesand. The building to the right, long gone, was a relict from the period when the herring came in enormous quantities every year and thus started an industry along the Bohuslän coast.
